Chicks N’ Kicks And The Odd Man Who Hates Them

If your Instagram is anywhere as invasive as mine, you’ve noticed a new kick to women’s fashion. And the national anti-diva symbol that’s taken over much of 2012 has been turning heads… for a good reason. On their more gully days, Teyana Taylor, Rihanna, and Rita Ora have all been seen and applauded for doing up the low key look. And judging from the likes (and thirsty commentary) it’s safe to say that men are loving the androgynous slant on sex appeal as well.
But then again, that’s just some guys. Some guys just don’t care about that bandwagon and in fact, think everyone on that bandwagon is out here looking silly as hell. Meet *Mike*, a 28-year-old successful bachelor who thinks kicks are for kids, and grown women down with the cause got some ‘splaining to do. But before anyone makes a noose out of their laces, we decided to hear his full story (because of course he has to explain himself, right?)
WWMD: So what don’t you like about sneakers, or at least women in sneakers?
They just look juvenile. Young, as if she doesn’t have any areas in her life where she needs to be taken seriously. That’s the exact opposite type of woman I’m trying to recruit.
All sneakers make you think that way?
[Extremely long pause...] Yeah… I mean I guess if she looks like she’s going to work out… Or we’re going on a walking date, maybe then I get it. But if she’s rocking them to style or impress me, I’ll think she’s young minded.
So as long as she has a reason, then you’re okay with chicks in kicks?
Yeah like a good reason. But rockin them out? With me? On a date? NAH. I don’t think that’s a good idea…
What if she’s rocking them PROPER? On some Rihanna-Cassie-Teyana Taylor fly girl swag? Still not sexy?
Why do average girls think it’s okay to do what celebrities do? This goes beyond sneakers, just speaking in general but whatever. Those girls get away with it for a couple of reasons 1.) They’re already official. They have nothing to prove, they don’t need to win your approval —they’ve already got it. Which is why so many people follow the trends they set. 2.) Girls don’t realize that these celebs will rock sneakers but be dripping in luxury designer names. The average girl —not so much, she’ll wear sneakers and average clothes, bringing down the overall value of her look.
So as long as she’s drenched in wealth she can get away with rocking sneakers in your book?
No, sneakers are never a good look, or at least a sexy look. I’m just saying, if she’s looking to imitate a celeb’s appeal, she should be aware of some fundamental differences.
So for those that can’t see, you’re a polished guy. You have a lucrative career in corporate america, and you yourself wear sneakers on you’re more casual days…Do you think your opinions are unique or do other guys, like your colleagues feel the same?
No, I’m a slim population. My colleagues like the possibility of getting laid more than they care about women’s fashion. I do too. But if we’re talking about “My girl” as in the one I’ll be wifin’ and publicly claiming, I have a few preferences…
So you won’t be accepting any date invitations from Teyana Taylor anytime soon?
No.
What about Cassie?
I will, but not because of her sneakers….
Plakow, another behind-the-scenes of the things some men think, but won’t say (unprovoked anyways). What shall you make of it? Whatever the hell you want. Wanna quit kicks because they compromise your role as an American sex symbol? If that’s what you do, do it to it. If you wanna stop reading this blog to go cop a pair of Lebrons online, same dilly. At the end of day me, Tracy, and Chaz always encourage a woman to do her. We’re just curious to know what he’s thinking while she’s in the process. Feel us? Word.
Toodles,
